Privacy Policy
The short version: Flying collects only what it needs to track your flights and power the features you use. Your flight history is yours — it is shared with friends only when you choose to share it. We don't sell your personal information, and we don't show ads.
1. About
Flying is an iOS app and website (flying.app) operated by Stratos Explorations, LLC ("Flying," "we," "us," or "our"). Flying helps travelers track their flights, get real-time flight and airport updates, keep a log of past flights, view travel statistics, and share flights with friends.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Flying, you agree to the practices described here.
2. Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account, we collect the information you provide, such as your name, email address, and optionally a profile photo. We use this to operate your account, sync your data across devices, and let friends recognize you when you share flights.
Flights you add
When you add a flight to Flying, we store the flight details (such as airline, flight number, date, route, and seat or confirmation details you choose to add) so we can track the flight for you, send you updates, build your flight log, and calculate your travel statistics.
Friends and sharing
If you use Flying's friends features, we store your connections and the flights you choose to share so that your friends can see them. Sharing is always opt-in: your flights are private to your account unless you add friends or share a specific flight. If you invite a friend, we process the invite link you send; we do not access your contacts without your permission.
Notifications
If you enable push notifications (for example, for delay or gate-change alerts), we store a device push token provided by Apple so we can deliver them. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.
Waitlist and website
If you join the waitlist on our website, we collect your email address and, if you provide it, your name, so we can contact you about Flying's launch and related updates. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in our emails or by contacting us.
Support
If you contact us for support, we keep the correspondence and any information you share with us so we can help you and improve the service.
Technical information
Like most online services, our servers automatically log basic technical information when your device communicates with them, such as IP address, device type, operating system version, and timestamps. We use this for security, debugging, and keeping the service running reliably.
3. How we use your information
- To provide and operate Flying: tracking your flights, sending you alerts, syncing your data, building your flight log and statistics, and powering sharing with friends.
- To communicate with you about the service, such as launch updates, service announcements, and responses to your requests.
- To maintain safety and security, including preventing fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access.
- To understand how Flying is used in aggregate and improve the app.
- To comply with legal obligations.
4. How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these circumstances:
- With friends you choose. When you add friends or share a flight, the information you share (such as your name, photo, and flight details) is visible to those people.
- With service providers. We use trusted third parties to operate Flying, such as cloud hosting providers, flight-data providers (we send them flight identifiers like airline, flight number, and date — not your identity), and Apple for push notifications and app distribution. These providers process data only to provide services to us.
- For legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others, or to investigate fraud or abuse.
- In a business transfer. If Flying is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any change in ownership or in how your personal information is handled.
5. Analytics and advertising
We may collect aggregated, anonymous usage statistics (such as which features are used most) to improve Flying. Flying does not show ads, and we do not use your data for advertising or share it with ad networks.
6. Data retention and deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. You can delete your account at any time from within the app or by contacting us, and we will delete your personal information, except where we are required to retain it by law (for example, records of transactions) or for legitimate security purposes such as fraud prevention. Waitlist information is deleted when you unsubscribe or when it is no longer needed.
7. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypting data in transit and restricting access to personal data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you as required by law if a breach affects your personal data.
8. Your rights and choices
You can access and update your account information in the app. Depending on where you live, you may also have legal rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing — including rights under the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
9. Children's privacy
Flying is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. International transfers
Flying is operated from the United States. If you use Flying from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate, which may have different data-protection laws than your country. We take steps to ensure your information receives appropriate protection wherever it is processed.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by email before the changes take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when this policy was most recently revised.
12. Contact us
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or your data, contact us at [email protected].
